Family Update

Well we sure have been slacking on updating the blog! A lot has been going on in the last month and a half and I'm happy to report that we sold our house and have moved into our new house! The new house is currently a disaster with lots of unpacking left to do, but we are looking forward to settling into the new place before Sofia comes along.

We had another ultrasound so they could check her heart since she didn't cooperate the first time and everything looked great! She is moving all around now to the point where you can see my belly move from the outside which is pretty neat in my opinion. I've also discovered that having anything sugar related even remotely close to bedtime is a bad idea as I'm pretty sure that she does summersaults in there :)

I am now 29 weeks and 2 days, so we are definitely on the homestretch and we can't wait to meet her!

The fun things of being pregnant

These last couple of weeks have been quite fun as Sofia is getting bigger and I can feel and see her (my stomach) move! She is now about 11 inches long and weighs a little over a pound.  She seems to love music as she moves around quite a bit when there is good music playing.

This week I had my first hilarious pregnant craving moment with a watermelon at New Seasons.  I know it is technically not watermelon season yet, but having watermelon was sounding so good.  We went through the check-out line and the cashier made the comment that it was the most expensive watermelon she had ever seen.  I looked up and realized it was $18! While expensive, I have to admit it is a really good watermelon and I keep assuring Eric it was worth every penny!

I've discovered a funny thing about being pregnant when you're short.  I've had two people at work comment to others how I look like I'm having twins.  While comparing myself on Facebook to someone I know who is about 2 months ahead of me, I realized our tummies were similar in size.  As I thought about it more, she's about 5 inches taller than I am, so her little one has more room to go. With Sofia being almost a foot long, she only has room to go out! It will be interesting to see how I look at 9 months!

It's a girl!!

We went in for Brooke's second ultrasound today and we're proud to announce we're having a girl!  Good thing too as we seem to already have a lot of girl clothes for some reason and that potential boy we would have had could have looked pretty funny. Mom and baby are both doing fine and the doctor said everything looks normal.  The ultrasound technician was able to get all the photos that she needed expect the four chamber heart shot because she just wasn't cooperating and had her arms crossed across her chest.  She tried to get the baby to move by poking and prodding Brooke's belly, but she was being very stubborn just like her mom and curled up into a little ball not budging.  It looks like we will have to go back in for another ultrasound in 4-5 weeks to get the heart shot so they can confirm it is developing ok, but that means we just get another opportunity to see her again!

First OutfitSo we already had a boy and girl name picked out going into the appointment and the girl name that we've decided to give her is Sofia Jane.  Jane is, of course, Brooke's mom's name.  Sofia is a name my mom picked out while she was in the hospital recovering from one of her bad chemo bouts.  I don't think she ever remembered that she did pick it out, but the story is somehow we got on the topic of baby names and she brought up the name Sophia.  We both said we loved that name and she declared, "Oh, I just named my first grandchild!" We didn't realize until just a few weeks ago that Sophia was my mom's grandmother so that's a neat bit of history.  You're probably noticing the change in spelling there and the reason is we just liked the alternate Spanish spelling of "Sofia".   So that's the story and makes it so there's a little bit of both of us in the name.

Tis a Princess!

Upon getting back to the office today Brooke's office area was decorated with little pink sticky notes among other things by her co-workers.  Sounds like not just us are excited!  Now we just need to sell our house and get moved so we can start getting a baby room ready.  We've got a potential offer in the works on our house right now so we hope it all works out so we can move soon. Be sure to check out Brooke's latest weekly photo too.  It seems she keeps getting bigger every day!

Is the baby a Sofia or a Christian?

I'm officially 20 weeks and half way through my pregnancy today! The baby is now the size of a cantelope and weighs around 10 ounces.

Tomorrow is the big day where we find out if we are having a boy or a girl!

19 weeks along!

I'm almost to the halfway point of my pregnancy and loving every minute of it! The baby is now the size of a mango from crown to rump and weighs about a half a pound.  He or she really has started moving around this last week, which has been such a fun experience for me! Between the kicks and the general movement, it has been quite an interesting time. We decided the baby is definitely part of the family when he or she started moving around when Eric was playing Michael Jackson :)

Next week we will hopefully be able to share the news of whether it is a boy or a girl as long as the baby cooperates during the ultrasound!

Week 18 Update

So I'm officially 18 weeks and almost halfway through my pregnancy.  I felt the baby move for the first time last week, which was a pretty amazing experience.  Everyone I talked to had a different opinion on what it felt like to them. I've heard butterfly wings and gas. Mine felt like popcorn, what can I say? :)

This week the baby is 5.5 inches long (crown to rump) and about 5 ounces in weight.  I'm definitely getting bigger in my stomach and pretty much carrying the baby all out in front.  Supposedly that means I'm having a boy, but I still have a feeling I'm having a girl.  We find out the sex of the baby on March 17, so we'll find out soon enough!

I am finally not feeling nauseous and really enjoying my pregnancy and growing belly.  It has been fun to take pictures each week to watch me grow and see how much my body is changing.  Now if I could only keep my eyes open during the picture taking, we would be all set!

Baby Update

We had a prenatal check-up last Wednesday at 15 weeks and didn't have an ultrasound, but we did get to hear the baby's heartbeat. First of all, for the nervous moms like myself, I think it should be an option to have an ultrasound at every visit! I realize this is obviously more than likely not possible, but things change so much so quickly when you are pregnant and it would be nice to see the changes! Ok back to the appointment.  The doctor had a hard time getting the heartbeat on the machine because the baby was moving around so much.  I think we are going to have an active little one on our hands!  Our next appointment is March 17 where we will find out if we are having a boy or a girl and we can't wait!
